AG Jackley Recognized for championing impaired driving legislation
South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley received a National Leadership Award from the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility this month. 7 other Attorney Generals joined him across the nation who are championing the cause to end drunk driving and DUI recidivism in their states. Jackley was a staunch supporter of South Dakota’s 24-7 Sobriety Program which works hard to eliminate impaired driving. The 24-7 Sobriety Program works on the underlying cause of alcohol addiction and dependency. By focusing on the underlying problem, the program has seen success throughout the state and serves as a model for many other jurisdictions.
South Dakota’s 24-7 Sobriety Program requires participants to undergo 24-hour alcohol monitoring through SCRAM Continuous Alcohol Monitoring devices. The devices test participants every 30 minutes for alcohol consumption. This ensures that participants are held accountable at all times during the monitoring period. The 24-7 Sobriety Program is a collaborative effort between many different agencies and was groundbreaking in its efforts to curb drunk driving.
