Eligible, non-violent drug offenders can choose court-mandated treatment at no cost instead of jail time
In 2024, California’s Proposition 36 introduced sweeping changes to drug and theft-related offenses, including the option of court-mandated treatment for individuals convicted of certain drug possession offenses rather than prison. Successfully completing the program can lead to the dismissal and expungement of their charges.
Locally, the Orange County Health Care Agency partners with a network of state-licensed community-based organizations, clinics, and residential facilities to offer the services.
Options Outpatient by DMS has worked with the Orange County Health Care Agency to offer intensive outpatient program completely covered by California Medi-Cal. Participants who qualify can undergo substance abuse treatment at zero cost.
Options offers daily intake interviews to ensure immediate program enrollment so that clients avoid incarceration. Daily individual or group sessions are led by licensed therapists and offered in English, Spanish or Vietnamese.
