RADD Receives Grant to Help Reduce Impaired Driving

Recording Artists Against Drunk Driving Awarded $290k Grant

The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) announced earlier this month that they would administer a grant to the Recording Artists Against Drunk Driving (RADD) to “promote alcohol safety on California College Campuses.”

The over $290k grant is part of several awarded by the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). RADD, according to the press release, plans to use the money to hold events on college campuses throughout the year. Due to the pandemic, many of the events will be held virtually.

Some of the planned events include:

  • alcohol/driving lesson plans
  • Social media posts and quizzes
  • Printable posters and handouts

The campaign targets college-aged students and hopes to bring awareness about the dangers of impaired driving. RADD includes “emerging recording artists and influencers” that may help to bring peer-to-peer aid to the problem. The grant will help support programs through September 30, 2021.

Drinking on college campuses and universities throughout the country runs rampant. Increased education about the dangers of drinking and driving could help to save countless lives each year. The California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control helps to support organizations dedicated to alcohol safety through education and the administration of prevention and enforcement programs.

Other organizations such as Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and Arrive Alive California were also awarded grants to help boost community outreach programs targeted at reducing impaired driving. The ABC was also provided a $1,997,530 grant to help fund a number of programs that “increase public safety by combating underage drinking and educating licensees about alcoholic beverage laws.”
