Florida and SCRAM Provider Sunshine Safety Council

Since 2012, the Sunshine Safety Council has offered SCRAM Continuous Alcohol Monitoring services to the residents of Flagler, Putnam and Volusia Counties.  It is a Florida DHSMV-approved DUI Program that works with individuals charged with alcohol and traffic related offenses to meet their court requirements and handle any underlying reliance on alcohol.  Florida is notoriously strict when it comes to drunk driving consequences.  For a first time offense, the State of Florida requires those convicted of driving under the influence to pay a fine of up to $1000.  The fine increases to between $1000 to $2000 if there are extenuating circumstances such as a minor in the vehicle or a blood alcohol level of .15% or higher.  There is a mandatory requirement for 50 hours of community service, 1 year of probation, imprisonment at the court’s discretion, and a minimum 180 day license revocation with hardship eligibility and installation of an ignition interlock device.  The consequences get more stringent for subsequent offenses.

In an effort to combat the pervasive alcohol-related driving offenses, the Sunshine Safety Council began offering monitoring services in addition to traffic and DUI related programs.  Alcohol monitoring through the SCRAM Continuous Alcohol Monitoring device requires complete sobriety.  The bracelet tests for alcohol consumption every 30 minutes.  Participants wear the device for an average of 90 days and have an impressive completion rate.
