The Superstar’s DWI Controversy Has Caused Jeep to Pull Recent Commercial
71-year-old Bruce Springsteen was arrested last year for driving while intoxicated. News of the arrest comes just days after Jeep ran a popular Superbowl commercial featuring the legendary singer. According to CNBC, Jeep has since pulled the commercial from the air stating that it would wait “until the actual facts can be established.”
The icon was charged with DWI in a New Jersey national park. The news outlet indicates that the arrest occurred on November 14 at the Gateway National Recreation Area at Sandy Hook. Springsteen was said to be “cooperative throughout the process” but faces charges of DWI, “reckless driving and consuming alcohol in a closed area.”
TMZ was reportedly the first to learn of the incident which has since been picked up by nearly every media outlet in the country. The case, because the incident occurred in a federal park, will be heard in a federal court.
There is some question about what Springsteen’s blood-alcohol level was at the time of the arrest. As discussed in The Drive, “a source familiar with the case told the Asbury Park Press that Springsteen’s blood alcohol content was only 0.02 at the time of his arrest, which is only a quarter of the 0.08 legal limit in New Jersey.
Springsteen was not the only celebrity recently arrested for allegedly driving under the influence.
According to US Magazine, other celebrities facing charges of drunken-driving include:
- Jubilee Sharpe of Bachelor fame
- Country singer Sam Hunt
- Actor Henry Thomas
- Nathan Griffith of Teen Mom 2 fame
Drinking and driving is a serious offense that can lead to jail time, mandatory installation of an ignition interlock device, and the loss of your driving privileges.
